Details and Service
In addition to emergency response, the Call Force is called upon to provide a variety other nonemergency services.
Open Air Burning Permits: Inspections and Call Center
Each April when the open air permitted burn season is at it’s busiest, the Call Force is tapped to assist. Members staff the permit call in center, conduct site inspections, issue permits, and provide data entry for the program.
Fire Prevention Details
The Call Force is available to staff fire prevention details during including fireworks displays.
SAFE Graduation
A number of Career members organize and deliver an outstanding fire safety program to 4th grade classes in Amherst and surrounding towns. The program called S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness For Fire Safety Education) recognizes participants with a graduation program in which the entire Call Force is pleased to assist.
Snow Storm Plowing and Assistance
During heavy snow conditions a Call Force team is detailed to operate a plow truck which responds to all ambulance calls to provide assistance to the crew as necessary.
Santa Delivery
Yes, the Call Force even helps out Santa with a ride into town on our aerial platform in early December for the town’s annual tree lighting celebration. The kids love it.
National Fire Prevention Week Open House
Each year on a Saturday during National Fire Prevention week, the Department holds an amazing open house. In addition to providing important fire safety information, we have many equipment displays, and demonstrations, fire extinguisher training, Smokey Bear, and of course free donuts and beverages. Call Force members are integral with set-up and assist the day’s activities.
